What is the 7th House?

What is the 7th house?

The 7th house is where we form our closest partnerships.

The Difference between the 1st and 7th House

The general rule of the 12 houses in astrology is that the first house governs our interests, our body, and how others perceive us. But the 7th house is the opposing house to the 1st. And there we find the conditions of our marriage. We find commitments to our business partners.

The key distinction between the two opposing houses (first house and seventh house) is the 1st house indicates how people will initially see us. How people view us after getting to know us personally, face-to-face.

The Types of people in the 7th House

People commonly confuse the 11th house with intimate friendships, while the seventh house represents a best friend. In the 11th, we see acquaintances and people who are part of a group we belong to.

The 11th house is also a place where people offer us their support. However, here we also find one other person whom we have a contractual agreement with, whether we agree verbally, or agreed in writing.

One interpretation of “the other person” is the person we marry. Could be our business partner. A long-term partner we live with or a partner we share children with. Nevertheless we don’t only form partnerships, but we also make commitments.

A person, a cause, a policy, or a work might be our commitment.

Signs in the 7th House

If Aries rules the seventh house, we have to look out for ourselves, and our own self interests.

Aries indicates an embrace to life’s adventure. sees someone committing to being courageous. A person always knowing the direction that and plan to follow. If the plan fails, a new one begins. Aries, is a pioneer, a person who does something first and then other people will follow.

Thus, with Aries here we are good at following or finishing things that other people have started. Although we may be good at forming close bonds we could struggle to sustain a long-term one-to-one relationship.

If Taurus governs the 7th house it depicts a person who is committed to their family or is committed to a secure way of living. Basically, a traditionalist who needs to get married. Commits to being productive, grounded, and thus unmoved by other people’s actions. Taurus in the 7th can show being stubborn and arguing with others.

However, if Uranus or Mercury is in Taurus one may never feel totally settled in one-to-one relationships.  If Virgo occupies the seventh house, a person is committed to their children, work, values, and morality.

Virgos believe they must marry. It’s their duty. They also will feel they have a duty to serve their partners needs before their own needs. But no commitment or legislation requires putting others before oneself. Nevertheless, Virgo in the 7th believes serving others is “right.” This is the type of person that is unlikely to step out of line. Too afraid to break the law.

This brings us on to the next area pertaining to the seventh house.

Legal Affairs

Those that oppose us open, they challenge our inaccuracies and how we have been handling ourselves when interacting with other people. This is unlike the people we find in the 12th house that don’t initially reveal their dislike towards us or they simply ignore us, or suppress their true thoughts.

In the 7th, people oppose us and may do so in court.

If one party to a case has filed a motion with the court, the other side can file an “opposition.”

There will also be courtrooms and discussions, such as signing a contract or shaking hands on an agreement. The seventh house is not the home of love (see the 5th house), rather it contains our disputes with others. The seventh house represents our open enemies, while the 12th represents our secret enemies.
