What is the 12th house?

What is the 12th house? It is the House where we Escape!

The Myth

Associated with Pisces, and planet Neptune. The 12th is the last house in an astrology chart. Astrologers consider the 12th house to be a place of solitude.

Also, the house takes on themes akin to the sign’s mythology.

In Greek mythology, planet Neptune is comparable to the god of the sea, Poseidon.

Neptune’s watery associations has lead for the 12th house to be known as a Waterhouse. Similarly, the sea the most remote place on earth. It is the only area on earth not fully explored.

Thus, the sea is an invisible & remote place.

Like the ocean and the sea, the 12th house is a faraway place. And includes secluded, private places, not near people, roads, or buildings: like a secluded beach

Furthermore, words like invisible, spiritual, or concealed have similar ties to the 12th location of the chart.

Although sign language can be used underwater, it is difficult for people to communicate verbally or audibly. Diving underwater is a place of peace and quiet, which are essential components in achieving isolation

Solitude

Solitude or withdrawing can lead people to feel isolated and can make some people to experience imaginary worlds.

Our dreams, delusions, the subconscious mind are all unknown realms. Then add in unknown realms and solitude.

Then the 12th house can quickly turn into a house of apparitions, a house of spirits.

The 12th house can become the house of our imaginations. A life that is not our current life or here we have dreams about relationships that never materialise.

Types of People and Places

Musicians, Painters, Actors, and Writers get inspiration from the 12th house activities. Seeing imaginary people and things which are beyond the realms of this life can be a very creative and spiritual experience.

Alternatively, spiritual realms, apparitions such as seeing spirits can also be a sign of madness. As a result, the twelfth house is also the house of institutions i.e. Rehab clinics, psychiatric wards, hospitals, schools set up as a charity, and orphanages etc.

People may also be confined because of their art, illness, and for religious purposes.

When a person helps out the poor and disadvantaged they are revered. There are many institutions which are religious organisations that help the poor such as monasteries & nunneries.

When monks, and nuns, shut themselves off from the rest of the world they’re seen as caring beings. They’re perceived as otherworldly; doing things that the average human does not want to do.

Of course, some people are forced into confinement i.e. being in hospital or prison. Regardless, of why a person ends up confined, solitude serves a purpose, because it allows a person to reflect on their motives. And not to forget to explore things beyond what is readily seen.

Sshh

Meditating is used to reach a state of nothingness.

It’s simple to nod off when there’s nothing to keep you occupied and no noise to drown out your thoughts. Thus, Sleeping is another condition which involves the absence of the mind or memory.

Sleeping is a process involving trying to reach a peaceful state of existence.

We can also view the 12th house as a period of life which is before and after birth, a period we do not consciously remember, such as a time the foetus/fetus was in the womb, the time just before birth.

Our past life, or just before incarnating into this world (at the point when we choose who will be our parents).

The Unseen

As previously mentioned, you can also try to understand the 12th house in terms of incarnation.

Questions such as, why have we incarnated? Although the eighth house is also considered the house of life death and rebirth A.K.A reincarnation.

Nevertheless, the 12th house is the house of karma.

A house of unresolved issues which doesn’t only pertain to your unresolved issues but also relates to your ancestors. The things that our ancestors could not do in their lifetime, we will repeat similar themes.

And ancestors issues may have somehow blocked you from progressing.

Astrologers classified this house as a house of hidden enemies. It’s the people who are going to cause you some type of harm that may bring some type of emotional disturbance in your life.

Nevertheless, hidden enemies, karma, madness/illness gives this house a bad reputation. Although, it may turn out that you are your own worst enemy.

Escapism

People with the 12th house emphasis working with people who are addicts/delusional. Be it addicted to food, spending money, or cannot stop thinking about someone they love etc.

In this house you can see how a person escapes from life (through music, sleeping, daydreaming, relationships, performing etc).

And if a person has many planets in this house, it can show a psychic. A loner, prisoner, a counsellor, doctor, healer, someone with mental health issues/an undiagnosed illness.

If a 12th house person feels alone. To combat loneliness spiritual practices, or study ‘mystic’ religions are undertaken.

Most importantly, the 12th house is where you unconsciously correct /put right undesirable thoughts, ideas, and judgements.

It is the house where you heal the deepest aspects of yourself. And in turn you can go on to heal other people.
