What is the 4th House?

What is the fourth house?

What is the fourth house? The 4th house is relatively  quiet. It’s a place in the chart where you lay your foundations.  It’s the ground, the earth, your homeland.

The place where we Grow.

It’s our fortress.

The fourth house is also the natural home of Cancer and the Moon.

The locality of the 4th house makes up one of the four axis’s in a chart known as the IC (The Imum Coeli). And can be found at the bottom of the chart wheel (“bottom of the sky”).

In fact, when you strip yourself right down to the core, you get to the make-up of what makes you- you but it is the least conscious part of yourself.

Family Ties and the 4th House

Discovering yourself involves knowing your history (primarily how you’ve been raised), your genetics/family, ancestry, heritage, and where you were born.

Here you can see the traits you’ve inherited from your family.

The conditions of your early years, how your family life shapes your future, and how you handle certain situations. As a result, of this house being connected to your childhood and family dynamics, the 4th house shows your past!

Retreating Home!

So, if you want to see your living conditions, here in this house is where we can also see real estate and your physical home like what you would like your home to look like.

Thus, the 4th house has all the fundamental ingredients that make you who you are today, yesterday, and tomorrow.

And like the eighth and twelfth house the fourth house can show private activities, things that you do amongst only your family or when alone at home.

Emotionally stable or unstable?

It’s a house that (excuse the pun) houses your emotions,  which is another part of life that you do not want people to see.

In all actuality, this is thehouse where you can find your overall state of being – at least during this lifetime because your feelings change from day to day, hour to hour, minute to minute.

Therefore, transiting Moon is more likely to reflect your daily moods so do not only look at the 4th house.  Tracking the movement of the Moon is more accurate because transiting Moon moves into a new zodiac sign approximately every two and a half days.

Nevertheless, there is generally an all-pervasive feeling each person will feel throughout their whole life. These feelings derive from their upbringing and can be seen in the 4th.

Signs and Planets in the 4th House

For instance, having Aries or Aquarius on the 4th house can show somebody who feels alone, abandoned (Aquarius) or on edge.

Abandonment issues could arise because their parents rejected them or because they were not the favourite child.

Moon in the 4th in Aries may always feel protective of their mother or feel as if they must bury their excitement or anger. Anger issues can be because their parents were hotheads. They couldn’t show emotion for fear of upsetting their parents.

Taurus in the 4th house could show somebody who is very fixed. They need security, and if they don’t have it, feelings of insecurity arise, or they will always fear the possibility of losing something important to them.

Taurus here shows a person feeling owned by their family. This is because they think they owe their family something, or they will have issues with their possessions, i.e., wanting to own something or someone.

However, if you have Taurus in the 4th house, it signifies taking ownership over your emotions and feelings. Nevertheless, this house is the  ‘roots’  of our chart.

It is, therefore, the house where we grow.

As a result, we need to nurture this house as much as possible. Nevertheless, actual growth found here may not always be seen in this lifetime. Hence, this house, like the 8th and 12th houses, is the house of endings (our final resting place).
