9th House & Rulership

The ninth house follows on from the eighth house, and it is the house where you explore your beliefs! If the eighth house is akin to a cemetery or therapy room, then the ninth house is comparable to a university.  

Rightful occupant Sagittarius would be a lecturer, an examiner, or a judge. And ruler Jupiter is viewed as an ambassador representing optimism, growth, and exploration. Thus, teachers, mentors, religious leaders are all found in this house. Because here you can see how you learn things beyond your childhood experiences.  

You can look to this house to see a person’s abstract concepts, how they make meaning of the world. What do they believe? Are they religious? What are their guiding principles? 

The Type of People found here

Thus, ninth house people are not only teachers, foreigners, lawyers, mentors, or religious figures but here we can also find cultural critics, publishers, a foreign audience, and the readership of your writing. People who watch your performances (although in terms of your clientele also look at the sixth house). 

Transiting Planets in the 9th

When a transiting planet enters or is in aspect to the ninth house you’ll prod and probe your beliefs. For example, if transiting Pluto enters the ninth house this can be a time where you may want to explore whether God really exists. Investigate extra-terrestrial activity, explore astrology, or any other occult practice.  

With Pluto here suggests being subversive by nature. That one subconsciously rejects hierarchies manufactured by society. One will subvert power for example by testing out the theory whether people actually need a postgraduate or undergraduate degree to succeed in life.  

As a result, when Pluto enters the ninth house people drop out of school, need to repeat, or will fail their last paper etc. Although the ninth house also refers to long distance travel under a Pluto transit it could entail embarking on a life changing trip. A trip so profound it effects on your beliefs! 

Study & Travel!

Philosophy and all forms of studying are ways to broaden your perspective, as is the case with travelling. The difference between the 3rd and 9th house in terms of travel is the 9th house is home to longer journeys whereas the 3rd house houses shorter journeys.  

Ninth house travelling is travelling by air, travelling beyond a neighbouring town.

Typically involving foreign travel. 

Similar to travelling religion is also a cultural experience. But is also a cultural phenomenon. Many people’s choice to identify with their culture is dependent on their religion. Our culture can set beliefs created by higher institutions. 

What about Religion?

Religion transcends our cultural experience by trying to make sense of our everyday life. Religion also sets the rules of how we should behave especially for younger adults. Although, look to the sign governing this house to see where you will want to expand beyond what was learnt in the early part of your childhood. 

There is probably no better way to explore your beliefs then to explore them through religion. Although here religion can also play out in the form of ceremonies, bar mitzvahs, and christenings.  

Nevertheless, the ninth house is closely linked with religion and God, so much so, the house is often referred to as, ”the house of God”.

Believing in God requires faith that something beyond ourselves exists, even if we’re not a hundred percent sure. Religion, philosophy, and scholarly theories are all hypothesis.

In this house you can spend your whole life trying to gain evidence to understand your belief system. As already mentioned, theories are ideas you believe but you do not really know if they are true.   

So, in this house you’ll seek out the truth by exploring your beliefs. 

Difference Between the 3rd & 9th House

Religion can also pertain to symbols. However, the third house of communication is a digestible form of communication. But in the 9th house we use symbols in religious texts to decipher complex forms of communication. Astrology also communicates with symbols, could this be why astrology can also be seen here?

Although astrology can also be seen in the 8th and 11th house.

Publishing is also a ninth house matter because the ninth opposes the third house of writing.  

When you move from the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth through to the ninth house you should already be a prolific writer. The next stage after becoming an efficient writer is wanting people far and wide to read your work.  

Gemini in the 9th House

If Gemini governs the ninth house a person may want to improve their communication style. So that may mean they will want to learn how to speak a different language. They can become a world traveller. Gemini in the ninth house can be seen as someone who teaches people an alternative route into higher education.

This person has a knack for advertising or publishing. 

If there are favourable planets in Gemini (making positive aspects) then this person can have two university degrees. Would have attended two different universities.

If planets in the 9th house are in an inharmonious aspect, then they may have attended university but may have not completed their degree. And thus, they haven’t moved beyond the level of an early education qualification. 

Capricorn in the 9th house

If Capricorn governs the ninth house a person studies for an unusually long time. This is a type of person likely to be a mature student. With this placement it’s not uncommon to study music, biodiversity, archaeology, anthropology, or history. 

They travel for lengthy periods often by themselves, or with family members. Capricorn here will take travelling seriously. They explore a successful path in foreign lands, but with caution, prepared and plan for difficult terrains.

However, complaining about educational standards will be an excuse/reason used if they do not succeed. Or if they delay or divert their plans. 

In regard to expanding beyond what they have learnt in the early part of their childhood, Capricorn here wants to become more successful than their parents/ siblings, or they want to prove their childhood teachers wrong. Perhaps a teacher told them they would amount to nothing.  

As already mentioned, they will spend a lot of time with family members and childhood friends especially through travelling. Although, this placement foretells better results travelling without family and home comforts because it will be more favourable for their spiritual development.  

Furthermore, the most likely scenario will be that they will need to go beyond their childhood experience by becoming closer to people who appear to be foreign.
