What is The 1st House?

What is the first house?

What is the first house? It is a house where you find yourself.

You can also find your rising /ascendant sign (The star sign rising on the east horizon at the time of your birth), on the cusp of the 1st house.

This is a house of your identity, image, and how you want to represent yourself out there in the world.

A house that denotes your personality.

The image that other people initially see when they first meet you. However, as human beings we are more complex.

We are more than what first meets the eye.

Therefore, this house does not really encompass all of who you are, this house represents and influences your character.

Aries relationship with the 1st House

Aries is the natural occupant of the 1st house. And although we can also see the person’s outward character reflected in the 10th house, the1st house differs from the 10th.

Your physical body belongs to the 1st. And this is what separates the 1st from the 10th house. Believe it or not, you can also see your career from the 1st house, just as much as you can from the 10th house.

Why?

Your interests and personality are 1st house themes.

In the 1st house you can see how you move. See your body language. How you operate in the world and how you connect to everything and everyone.

Whereas the tenth house is the image you have garnered overtime. It is what people have heard about you. Read about you or gauged your behaviour from a distance rather than face-to-face.

Difference Between The 1st and the 10th

The 10th house is your reputation and what people will remember about you even after death. The 1st house is how people actually see you in the flesh.

The sign in the first house can influence a person’s looks i.e. facial and body features.

A sign such as Capricorn on the ascendant may find that they look better as they get older, although they really have to discipline themselves in terms of fitness and watch their food intake.

Signs and Planets in the 1st House

People who have the sign Taurus on the ascendant may be very attractive and have an ideal figure similar to Libra on the ascendant.

However, both may have a tendency to gain weight because of their taste in food. Although Taurus, Venus, and the second house are associated with taste and food.

However, some astrologers may say that it is debatable whether your body can be seen from this house i.e. whether a person is going to be skinny, or tall etc.

Why?

Well, other factors in a chart may be more prevalent. For example, locating where the ruling planet of the first house. Similarly, look to see where the ruler of the 1st house is located to know what are your preoccupied.

So, if Pisces is the rising sign, look for Neptune’s location because Neptune rules Pisces. And if Neptune is in the first house, in its own sign, then the ruler of the first is in the first house.

From there onwards, you can see that the person may be preoccupied with make-up, looking glamorous, or preoccupied with maintaining a spiritual identity.

Add in a planet that is conjunct the first house. This will influence the way a person looks and comes across to other people.

People may see this person as somewhat otherworldly. They may look ethnically ambiguous. Look delusional, reclusive, comical, and so forth.

If Pluto is residing in the first house/conjunct the ascendant, it can also imply a person is skinny. As well as controlling and being introverted.

However, if a planet conjuncts the MC or midheaven/10th house, it may cancel out what people see in the individual’s personality. People looking will be more influenced by the planet conjunct the 10th house.

Nevertheless, if a planet conjuncts the ascendant, it really makes someone stand out from the crowd. Planets in the 1st will give someone an additional layer to their personality or character.
