Venus Retrograde 2026: The Morning Star Shift and the Truth You’re About to Meet
Venus Retrograde 2026: The Morning Star Shift and What You Begin to See
Before a Venus retrograde, you may start questioning things you usually accept.
You put off returning a phone call. You notice something in a relationship that you previously overlooked. You avoid checking your bank balance because you don’t want to face another decision about money.
These small moments can help you recognise what needs attention.
If you’re a Taurus or Libra, Venus rules your sign, so this cycle deserves a closer look. If Venus also crosses or aspects a personal planet or an angle in your chart, the questions may feel especially personal.
Becoming the Morning Star doesn’t mean Venus has turned direct
People sometimes confuse these two stages, but they happen weeks apart.
At the inferior conjunction, Venus passes between Earth and the Sun. This marks the change from her Evening Star phase to her Morning Star phase. She gradually becomes visible before sunrise after the conjunction.
But Venus still moves retrograde at this point. She continues her apparent backward movement for roughly three more weeks before turning direct.
You might recognise something during the conjunction and still need time to decide what to do about it. Understanding a problem and changing it don’t always happen together.
The Inanna story—and the part you might recognise
Inanna’s descent into the underworld offers a way to understand this cycle.
As Inanna passes through each gate, she gives up something she carries or wears. By the time she reaches her sister Ereshkigal, she can no longer rely on the signs of her rank and power.
In everyday life, that might mean questioning a role you’ve worked hard to maintain. Perhaps you always keep the peace, help everyone else or make sure nobody sees you struggle. When that role stops working, you have to face what you need beneath it.
But you don’t have to recognise yourself as Inanna. Other people in the story show different sides of the experience.
- Inanna makes the descent. You may recognise her when you question who you are without a relationship, position or role that once defined you.
- Ereshkigal faces her sister without making the meeting easier. She can represent a difficult truth you can no longer avoid, or someone who refuses to overlook it.
- Dumuzi carries on comfortably while Inanna is absent. His part raises questions about who notices another person’s struggle—and who continues as though nothing has changed.
- Ninshubur seeks help when Inanna doesn’t return. She represents the friend who follows up, notices your absence and keeps trying to reach you.
- Enki creates two small beings who bring Inanna back to life. Their part reminds us how practical, quiet help can make a real difference.
- Geshtinanna shares Dumuzi’s time in the underworld. She represents someone who agrees to share a burden rather than leave another person to carry it alone.
You may recognise more than one role. You might need support in one relationship while offering it in another.
Where this cycle meets your chart
Venus retraces the degrees between approximately 22°52′ Libra and 8°29′ Scorpio. Check your Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars, along with your Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven and IC. Close contacts give you the clearest starting point.
Your houses show which areas of life enter the picture. The aspects describe how the questions connect with your natal chart.
Scorpio placements around 0°–9°
Venus crosses these degrees directly. You may review trust, closeness, money or boundaries. For example, you might realise that you agreed to share more than you feel comfortable giving, or that you’ve avoided a conversation because you fear the answer.
Libra placements around 22°–30°
Venus crosses these degrees before turning direct in late Libra. You may reconsider how you handle agreement and compromise. Perhaps you keep a relationship running smoothly by accepting arrangements that leave your own needs out.
Taurus placements around 0°–9°
Venus in Scorpio opposes these placements. Another person’s needs or choices may bring your own values into focus. A disagreement about spending, commitment or shared responsibilities can show you where you want different things.
Leo or Aquarius placements around 0°–9°
Venus in Scorpio squares these placements. You may struggle to meet two needs at once. You might want closeness while protecting your independence, or want to make a change while preserving something familiar. Events and other people can bring that tension into view.
Cancer or Capricorn placements around 22°–30°
Venus in Libra squares these placements. Questions about relationships, fairness or money may challenge an existing arrangement. Depending on your houses, you might need to review how you divide your time between home, work and the people who depend on you.
The Libra New Moon: 10 October
The New Moon falls at 17°22′ Libra on 10 October, one week after Venus turns retrograde.
Because Venus rules Libra, this New Moon connects a fresh start with a period of review.
You might begin by changing an agreement rather than starting a new relationship. You could ask for a fairer division of work, reopen a conversation about money or admit that keeping the peace has cost you too much.
A useful question here is: what would make this arrangement fair to everyone, including you?
How the cycle unfolds
31 August–3 October: notice what comes up
Venus enters her retrograde shadow on 31 August. This means she begins crossing the degrees she will revisit during the retrograde.
Pay attention to repeated concerns about relationships, spending, appearance or your sense of worth. A small disagreement may introduce a question you return to later.
You don’t need to solve everything immediately. Start by noticing what keeps coming up.
3–24 October: review the existing situation
Venus turns retrograde on 3 October at about 8°29′ Scorpio.
You may revisit an old relationship, an unresolved payment or a choice you thought you had settled. Sometimes another person returns. Sometimes you simply understand the past differently.
Use this period to examine what happened and what you want now. The Libra New Moon can help you begin a conversation or try a different approach.
24 October: the Morning Star turning point
Venus meets the Sun on 24 October, UK time, at approximately 0°45′ Scorpio. This conjunction marks the shift into her Morning Star phase.
Symbolically, this can mark a moment of recognition. You may understand why you keep accepting an arrangement, what you want from someone or why a particular purchase matters so much to you.
Venus remains retrograde. Give yourself room to work through what you’ve recognised instead of expecting an immediate answer.
14 November–15 December: put the review into practice
Venus turns direct on 14 November, UK time, in late Libra, then leaves her retrograde shadow on 15 December.
As she crosses the same degrees again, you can return to earlier questions with more information.
You might change a financial agreement, state a boundary more clearly or choose how much time and effort you want to give a relationship. The work now involves following through on what you’ve learned.
The bigger pattern: returning to your own values
Venus begins her retrograde in Scorpio and turns direct in Libra, one of the signs she rules.
That movement gives the cycle a useful symbolic shape. Scorpio brings difficult questions about trust, control, dependence and shared resources into the discussion. Libra brings attention back to fairness, agreement and how people treat one another.
In modern astrology, Pluto rules Scorpio and connects it with the underworld theme. Pluto begins this period retrograde but turns direct on 16 October, UK time, before the Venus–Sun conjunction.
The central question is whether your choices still reflect what matters to you.
Perhaps you formed a habit because it helped you manage a difficult situation. You kept everyone happy, avoided asking for too much or stayed in an arrangement because it offered security.
Now you can examine whether you still need that habit—and what you want to do differently.
Coming home to yourself can take a practical form: asking for what you need, making an agreement you can live with, or spending your time and money in ways that reflect your values.
